Neurinoma of the head and neck

Neurinoma of the head and neck ( schwannoma or neurolemma ) originates from the Schwann sheath of nerves. Macroscopically , it is a single, encapsulated, rounded tumor. In large neuromas, a mottled picture occurs due to hemorrhages, brown sections of xanthomatosis and cystic cavities. Neuromas located at the neck do not reach such enormous sizes as in localization in the retroperitoneal space. Clinically , patients with neuromas have cervical (the presence of a tumor), pharyngeal symptoms (sensation of a foreign body in the throat), neurological symptoms (numbness of the tongue, atrophy of half the tongue, change in voice, Horner’s syndrome, headaches, etc.). Neurological and pharyngeal symptoms shiisitis from the localization of the tumor, the original nerve and the degree of its involvement in the process. A differential diagnosis should be made with carotid chemodectomy , a solitary metastasis of the cancer in the lymph nodes of the neck. Surgical treatment.

Head and neck liposarcoma

Liposarcoma of the head and neck is a malignant tumor of dense-elastic consistency, often with infiltrative growth. It is rarely detected in the head and neck. It features a slow growth rate. Microscopically – several variants of liposarcoma are isolated . For some, multicentric growth is characteristic , which leads to frequent relapse of the disease in the form of emerging new tumors from the remaining primordia. Other options are low-grade liposarcomas , which, along with frequent relapses, realize metastases, often distant (to the lungs). The treatment is surgical. Radiation and chemotherapy are ineffective.

Spasmodic torticollis

There is an incorrect position of the head, as with muscle crankshaft, however, not one but several muscles on one side of the neck are spastically tense; their tone periodically changes, as a result of which the specific position of the head is not observed, as with muscle crank.

Etiology of spastic torticollis

Spastic contracture is caused in most cases by neurogenic factors (diseases of the extrapyramidal system), as well as inflammatory changes.

Clinic of spastic torticollis

In general, it corresponds to that with muscle crankshaft, but differs in inconstancy: an increase in muscle tone against the background of mental irritation is replaced by its significant relaxation in a state of deep sleep. Often spastic torticollis accompanies spastic paralysis of the entire affected side of the body.

Spastic torticollis treatment

First of all, measures are taken to eliminate the main nervous disorder that causes the symptoms of torticollis. Orthopedic products are used only in exceptional cases.
